FORGING is advancing its mission to promote the development of responsible enabling technologies and accelerate their adoption by industry and society.

The recent Technology Clustering workshops have provided insights into the socio-economic, technical, and environmental dimensions of emerging technologies. These workshops marked a critical step in gathering expert feedback, clustering the identified technologies not just by technical potential but by their broader social and environmental impact. A number of the most promising and responsible technologies in social, environmental and technical terms have been identified. The full report about the main findings is now available here!

Based on those results, APRE (Agency for the Promotion of European Research) organised in June 2024 two co-creation workshops focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber safe data technologies, which brought together experts from academia, industry, and public sectors. These workshops are part of FORGING’s broader effort to explore how novel technologies can be responsibly integrated into the industrial sector to support digital and green transitions.

During these workshops, participants developed seven use cases across AI and cybersecurity. The AI discussions focused on sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare, while cybersecurity use cases targeted healthcare and public administration. Key technologies such as Adaptive AI, Zero Knowledge Proof and Zero Trust were considered for their potential to meet human needs while ensuring social and environmental sustainability.

FORGING’s co-creation methodology, centered on interdisciplinary dialogue, allowed experts to align social science perspectives with technical implementation strategies, ensuring that technology solutions are not only innovative but also responsible and value-sensitive. The project will continue to explore additional technologies in upcoming events:

  • 14-15 November in Braga: Bio-inspired Technologies & Smart Materials workshop
  • 11-13 December in Brussels: Real-time based digital twins & Simulation; Human machine Interaction workshops
