One of the outcomes of the FORGING project is a Toolbox to support the responsible development and adoption of emerging technologies. It provides a structured framework for co-creation and collaboration throughout the four phases of the innovation journey—research, development, early implementation, and scaling.

The Toolbox contains a comprehensive set of evidence-based tools and materials, including canvases, cards, and other probes, which have been tested and refined during the course of the project. These resources will support stakeholders’ efforts to anticipate societal impacts, address risks, and identify pathways for sustainable and responsible technology uptake. In addition, it includes a comprehensive set of facilitation methodologies to guide the use of these tools and foster structured dialogue, and co-design processes.

This toolbox is designed to increase engagement in participatory processes, integrating societal values into technological development from the earliest stages. By doing so, it supports FORGING’s  contribution to reducing environmental impacts, enhancing awareness among end-users, and ensuring that innovation aligns with broader societal and environmental goals.

The Toolbox forms an adaptable framework that can be tailored across different sectors, national contexts, and technological settings in Europe. It is our hope it will provide inspiration and guidance for other initiatives aiming to advance responsible research and innovation.
