On 20 March 2025, the FORGING team held their 5th edition of their webinar series and gathering around 17 participants from across Europe. This edition focused on energy efficiency.

We had the opportunity to hear 3 EU expert speakers from Portugal, France and Italy who shared great insights with the audience in the field of energy efficiency:

  • Jorge Saraiva (VP for Europe of Prozeal)
  • Mirella Berry (Innovation Manager of Water Horizon)
  • Niccolo Mazzoleni (Marketing Manager for J4Energy)
Here are some key points from the webinar:
  • Different “paradigm shifts” have structured our approach to achieving environmental, climate and energy efficiency goals in the past (energy, industry, storage, etc.); shifting now to “climate capitalism” could trigger investments for prevention that would be much lower than cost of treating effects without mitigation;
  • Policy strategies are coupled with public funding but disruptive technology innovation is required to activate private investments;
  • Adaptation and mitigation can only be achieved if multiple stakeholders interact, as the “energy waste” of one can be a benefit for the other – working on decentralisation and involving relevant stakeholders including local communities could be a way to go;
  • The energy efficiency market is highly regulated so knowing the policy framework is key – and whilst regulations can be an obstacle for some players, they can open markets to those who offer innovation to optimize energy usage in industrial processes for example;
